A mini pump as pretty as it is smart.
The company's product team has taken their existing Tattico mini pump and added an electronic pressure sensor and Bluetooth to make the - drum roll - Tattico Bluetooth. Simply download the free iGuage app (for Android and iOS), and with the Tattico Bluetooth, your phone becomes a highly-accurate (+/- 0.5 PSI) pressure gauge.
Why an app instead of a built-in gauge? A smartphone app is easier to read and more precise. Though a pressure sensor and wireless system is by no means simple, the Tattico Bluetooth's electronics are fully sealed, and vibration-damped, so they’re waterproof and drop-resistant, which is more than can be said about a built-in gauge.
Like the standard Tattico, the Tattico Bluetooth’s locking, lossless, air chuck (Presta or Schrader) is connected to a flexible hose that stores inside the pump when not in use. As soon as the pressure sensor detects a few PSI, it wakes the bluetooth up and automatically pairs the iGuage app. The system is powered by a standard 2032 coin cell, which should last hundreds of hours, according to Silca’s CEO Joshua Poertner.
The nine-and-one-half inch pump is rated up to 120psi. It is a mini-pump, so higher pressures, or larger volume tyres, do require a fair bit of pumping, which generates heat. Luckily, heat sinks and air gaps keep the pump (and the user's hands) cool.
A tyre pressure gauge that is small and light enough to fit in the pocket could certainly appeal to cyclocross riders, or anyone else concerned with the consistency of their tyre pressure on the go. Stay tuned for a long-term review.
