Australia’s alpine regions hold many challenges for the cyclist who wants to test themselves against long, demanding climbs. A trip to the French Alps, Swiss Alps or Dolomites is one way to tackle some big climbs – but you don’t have to travel that far when the Victorian High Country has plenty to keep your lungs and legs burning.
From 27th October to 29th April the 7 Peaks Challenge is open for those wanting to test themselves on the best climbs in the Victorian Alps. You register online and mark your passport once you’ve completed each climb – or you can do it all electronically via an iPhone or Android app.
We have a big feature in our next issue on how to tackle them, what to expect, where to stay and what else you can do in the area. But here are the key details for your to plan your trip this season or next – with some training tips to help you achieve your goals!
Put yourself in the shoes of four-time Tour de France winnner Chris Froome who powered up this climb in 2017 as part of the Herald Sun Tour. The opening two-thirds of the ascent are considered an appetiser for the real challenge which is the final 12.9km, although spectacular views will ease your pain.
