TESTED: Garmin Edge 1000 GPS – Bike Magazine Australia

Garmin’s cycling computers have been so successful that the brand’s name has seemingly become synonymous with any GPS enabled unit. It’s not uncommon to hear riders refer to their computer as a Garmin regardless of its actual brand – that’s how successful and dominant the line has become.

The powerful unit of Garmin’s flagship Edge 1000 GPS not only proves basic ride stats like speed, distance and ride time and many others but also includes advanced features like ANT+ sensor compatibility with power meters, speed sensors, cadence sensors and electronic drivetrains from Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM. You’ll never get lost again thanks to the 1000’s preloaded Garmin Cycling Maps with turn-by-turn guidance. Plus, you can simply enter how far you want to ride the and the computer will offer up to three different routes based on your location.

The 1000 will connect with your smartphone too, via Garmin’s Connect Mobile app, to provide features such as live tracking, incoming call or text alerts, social media sharing, weather or wireless uploads. The only thing missing from the 1000 is GroupTrack and Incident Detection found on a few other models but makes up for it with a 3-inch diagonal touchscreen size – Garmin’s largest and perfect for those of us with aging eyes.
