Check out the beautiful paint on this limited edition Canyon road bike – Bike Magazine Australia

A limited number of custom-painted Canyon Ultimate CF-SLX road bikes will be offered for sale later today on the Rapha website. Rapha’s in-house graphics crew dreamed up the finish, which uses the company’s RCC (Rapha Cycle Club) colors: black, grey and fluorescent pink. Only 50 bikes will be offered, and you must be a member of the RCC to buy one. The bikes will be customised with the buyer’s RCC member number and chapter logo.

The Ultimate CF SLX is Canyon’s premier race frame. The 780 gram rim-brake frame is equipped with SRAM’s eTap wireless group, Zipp 404 NSW wheels, Continental GP4000S II tyres, Canyon’s one-piece carbon bar and stem, a Canyon carbon seatpost, and a Fizik saddle. Claimed weight for a size medium is just 6.35Kg. All seven sizes of the Ultimate CF SLX will be available to order: 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, and 2XL.

Canyon’s Ultimate CF SLX is a fabulous frame, and SRAM’s eTap group and the Zipp 404 NSW wheels are excellent as well. Together, they make the stuff of dreams. However, other than paint there’s nothing special or exclusive about this particular frame or its parts.

But that RCC paint – and the bike’s exclusivity because of the paint – incurs a premium. The RCC bike will sell for €7,000, which is about AUS$10,900. Canyon’s in-line Ultimate CF SLX Disc 9.0 Aero with SRAM’s eTap HRD disc group sells for $8,899. The Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Di2–built with Shimano’s Dura Ace 9100 Di2 rim-brake group will set you back $9,299 in Australia.

Want one? Here’s where things get fun. Only 50 will be made, and they’re only offered to RCC members. Anyone can join RCC: membership starts at $220 a year. For that, members get free coffee in any of the Rapha Clubhouses world wide, access to exclusive gear, discounts on Rapha Travel trips, race and training support, and other benefits.

However, before the general RCC population has access to the bikes, ordering will first be offered to the “most active” RCC members. When asked to illuminate what is meant by “most active,” Rapha spokesman Zach Pina said, “Members of the RCC who go above and beyond,” as determined by Rapha. “Essentially the [Rapha Clubhouse] ride leaders. They’re not technically Rapha employees, but they put in a ton of time (and ride miles) leading weekly rides, and shepherding other members or customers through the experience,” Pina said.
